Speaker

Dr. Rikk Watts is currently the Professor of New Testament  and member of the Marketplace Theology group at Regent College (Vancouver). He is on the board of reference for Arocha Canada (a Christian environmental group) and a regular interdenominational speaker at home and internationally.

Emerge Theme: Becoming Gospel Fluent

Rikk shares, “One of the reasons why so many Christians have trouble living the gospel is that we either do not know our foundational narrative or are still committed to several competing stories. The problem is that we just don’t know who we are. In this retreat, in order to help us become “gospel fluent”—where the gospel is as natural to us as sun, sky, and wind—we will talk about just what our foundational story is, and why the Spirit-filled life is utterly essential to our living."

Saturday Optional Breakout Hubs:

Hub #1 - Naturally Supernatural Witness:

Ever felt the tension in between wanting to see people find Jesus and being freaked out by evangelism?  Whew! Glad I’m not alone...me too! I take great comfort in the fact that Jesus said “Follow me, I will make you fishers of men."  Who's job is it to make us fruitful in evangelism? Jesus’! We just have to follow Him and let Him do the hard work. Join Mike Bidell as we explore practical ways to let Jesus demonstrate His profound love and surprising power through you as you bring the best message on earth wherever you go, perhaps more naturally than you ever imagined.

Hub #2 - God's Vision For Your Career:

You are studying hard to prepare for a lifetime of work in a particular vocation. Your Heavenly Father wants you to be confident that he has placed a high value on you as a worker, the work you are called to do, and the workplace you are called to do this in. Calvin Weber invites you to rediscover God’s vision for your career.

Hub #2A - Adventure Hub (Runs at same time as Hub #2)

This year at Emerge 2014, we will be hosting an adventure hub that will guide people either to the majestic waterfalls of Camp Hope or to the top of a mountain bluff which overlooks to the incredible Hope valley.  As we hike to our destinations, you will be captivated by the scenery and amazed by God’s creation.  Our desire is that through outdoor adventure you would be refreshed and experience a moment with God that you would cherish forever.  Upon arriving at our destinations we will be led in a simple devotional and moment of prayer and quietness before we head back for hot chocolate.  Take the adventure and allow yourself to be refreshed by Jesus through his amazing creation.
